Time to flog this blogger. You’d think I’d learn. But, no….
So I bought this beauty at Barton Springs Nursery on Friday when all the activity was going on in my gardens and I needed to add the filler plants too the new bed. The owner recommended this as a great plant for partial shade and said the deer leave hers alone so I scooped it right up.
And threw away the pot, and with it, the NAME!
Sigh.
So — anyone recognize this? It was mislabeled as a vine, and she said, that this wasn’t the vine, it’s the shrub of the same name. Whatever name that is….
Sigh!
I might make a guess but I can’t see a picture of it.
I see the picture this time but still can’t help you. It must be a southern plant.
Sorry Lisa – you must have been looking the second I posted because I had to switch from Safari to Firefox to get the photo to post but I didn’t want to lose my text so I put it up without it first for just a sec. But thanks for checking! Are you going to get some rain this week. My M-in-L says it’s in the forecast and they really need it for the beans.
That looks a little like something called an air potato that we grew at our gazebo here in town. Don’t know if that is it, but maybe.

Perhaps an email to the garden centre with the picture??
D
I can’t really tell from the photo. I would take a couple of pictures to the nursery and ask them. I’m sure they will be able to tell.
BTW, we’ve all done that. So I guess we’re all to be flogged. LOL.~~Dee
Debbi – Never heard of an Air Potato, though I don’t recognize that as the name that was on the sign. I may have to drive back to the nursery to look!
Dinzie – I’m not sure they’d answer that, but maybe I can call them! And hang up quick when they start laughing!
Dee — yes, but I just KEEP on doing it! You’d think I’d learn…but then again my memory is just getting worse so I guess I should lower the bar of my expectations!
I have done that so many times! Usually I just go back there and look around and I can find another one at the store just like it. BSN is good with identity, too – just take a leaf and show them. There can’t be that many partial shade plants that have a vine and a shrub with the same name…by the way, I’m curious about ANY new shade plants, so keep us posted about whatever it is!
I hoped someone would know, because it’s pretty cool looking, Diana. The flower is sort of like that Mexican Snapdragon/Maurandya antirrhiniflora that Pam/Digging grows, but hers is a vine.
Calling the nursery might work – I’ve had no luck getting emailed replies from other nurseries. With your persuasive powers you could call up the nursery and talk whoever answers into pulling up your blog while you’re on the phone with them so they could see the photo.
Annie at the Transplantable Rose
I did the same recently also with a plant from BSN. I know that plant tags–the white plastic ones can be a nuisance, but I kind of wish BSN would use them.
Good luck with the ID!
Robin and Annie — Oh- I just bought it Friday and I can just go back and look for myself. The good news is that the deer haven’t eaten it yet! And they have been around. I sprayed it with stinky Liquid Fence. Boy – THAT would repel just about anything!
Vertie – I like individual plant tags, too. I am less likely to lose them as I usually throw them in a pile somewhere for eventual recording. At least the odds are better with those!
Looks like Blue Waxweed — need to see an upclose of the flower!
Gardening.com identified one of my mysteries (and really quickly). Just upload a close-up so they can see the leaf and flower.
Pamie G – I try to get a close-up!
MaryBeth – that’s a good idea – I’ll check with them – thanks. I didn’t know that they do that – that’s cool.
Okay everyone, check my latest post — the plant is Thunbergia Battiscombei! Whoo hooo! Thanks for playing!
