Honestly, I didn’t think it was EVER going to rain again here in Austin. It’s been such a long, hot-hot drought this summer. Even worse than usual.
But today, after grey skies all day, it finally opened up and showered down upon us. We got a quarter of an inch in about 20 minutes, and the forecast is calling for a 70% chance of rain tomorrow, as well. And boy, do we need it.
When it was raining hard, I just had to get a shot of the rain gauge. We ended at .24 before the sun came back out and the rain stopped.
And then I set about plating some dinner from the yummy casseroles that my dear husband made for us this weekend while I was in bed. Being that it was a few minutes before 5:00, both dogs had taken their posts in front of the stove to make sure not to miss a stray morsel — and to remind me that it was time for THEM to be fed. They start lobbying at about 4:30 and are relentless.
Run, take cover, wet stuff is coming from the sky!
So, the good news is that I don’t have to water pots or birdbaths or deer water bowls now. And maybe if you all cross your fingers, I won’t have to do it tomorrow, either!
Hooray for rain. I can imagine how wonderful it felt to get that moisture.
Those hungry eyes are darling. We have a set of eyes that are alert for any crumbs and are on the same feeding schedule your dogs are on. You don’t need a watch around here to tell when dinner time approaches.
Lisa – yes – that’s what I said! Hooray. Like my babies — aren’t they cute? They are pretty sweet, even if they can be pests sometimes! They’ve been good nurse-dogs, too, sleeping by my bed every day.
Hope you make a quick recovery and are soon back to take care of the garden..
Hopefully, that rain makes its way to us here in Houston tomorrow.
Great day to be down…I’m gonna have some more coffee and stare out at the shiny green for a bit longer. What’s out of control in my garden in Gregg’s Mist flower…it’s over and under everthing around it! Take care!
Thanks, Lancashire rose – I am well on my way. And actually enjoying the rain and a break from the garden. But it did see some new weeds popping up when I went out to cut a lemon off the tree this morning. I wish only our plants would grow in the rain!
Isaac- So, are you getting some rain this morning? Looked like you might be when I saw the radar. I hope we get more today, too.
Conscious Gardener – It is a good day for that. I enjoyed a cup of tea and a quiet breakfast looking out at the birds when one of our does walked right up by the window to get some bird seed from a feeder. I know they are happy with the rain,
Yippee, Hip Hip Hoorah for the rain! You must be relieved…
Dogs are too funny, they have such a built in clock…so does my cat…too bad it’s at 6am every morning!
Hoping you are feeling better!
gail
Gail – and it’s rained most of the day today, too! You need to retrain that cat. HA. That’s like herding cats, huh?! I am much better, thanks for asking. Starting to think about gardening when the rain stops!!!
Diana, You sound as grateful as I am to finally get some rain. The last couple of months here in north Texas have been way to dry. October is usually our wettest month, it sure took it’s time getting here.
Debbi- And so unlike last year, where we just floated away all Summer long! Guess it ‘s just another reminder that we are NOT in charge! How much did you finally get?
