well, sort of…icicles, for sure. I thought the ice on my fountain made a lovely sight, in spite of the bitter cold that caused it.
You know, it’s not that we Texans can’t handle the cold, it’s the 30+ degree change in the span of ONE day that makes it just a little difficult to adjust.
Last night it was 29 here at Nature’s Garden. But on Saturday it reached almost 80 degrees. Bizarre. I guess it gives us something to talk about.
Diana, that fountain ice sculpture is gorgeous! I really didn’t think it got cold enough for the moving water to freeze. Aren’t you especially happy about that greenhouse now?
And then on Christmas it will be up in the 70’s again!
Diana, your foutain is lovely, but this Texan cannot handle our current weather. Stay warm. I understand we may have freezing rain tonight.
Yo yoing weather is hard on you and your garden.
The icy fountain is beautiful. I love it!
We get a lot of weather swings in winter too. Keeps things interesting. 🙂
Have a Merry Christmas!
Getgrounded – I AM happy about those little heaters pumping away in the greenhouse!
Nancy – yes, it will be hot and humid and we’ll all get sick! Ho ho ho!
Aunt Debbi – It’s raining here – well, not raining, that would be a verb – it’s WET here – misty, not actual water accumulating, which we need — but it’s 36, so I guess that’s safe for my short venture out into the madness this morning!
Lisa — it is a pain. And I don’t adjust well very quickly. Its like having hot flashes!
Sweet Bay – but don’t you get a longer, colder winter there? Do you get snow on a regular basis? Happy Holidays.
Your fountain froze? Wow. We got down to 29 but the water in our fountain kept moving -although the regular birdbaths were blocks of ice. These repeated 50 degree swings are ridiculous. One day turning on the oven to bake is great…two days later we want to grill to keep the house cool ;-]
Happy Christmas, Diana!
Annie at the Transplantable Rose
How did the plants in your greenhouse fare with the icy blast? Are you keeping the heater on?
Your frozen fountain is so pretty. I sure wish we could thaw from this deep freeze. Baby, it’s COLD outside!!!
Annie — I know – I was shocked. I hope I didn’t break it. I figured it would be ok with running water…guess not! Have a Happy Holiday.
Lancashire Rose – I’ve had to keep the heater on day and night for the last few really cold snaps – used both heaters for a few days. But usually I just use it at night and turn it off in the morning. I think we’ll be turning it off today as it warms up again! Best wishes for the season.
Robin — I know you have gotten some bad ice storms. My in-laws cancelled their trip here due to health problems, so we’ve been hearing all about the icy conditions there. My sister-in-law took 3 hours to drive a 30 minute trip home yesterday evening. Stay safe and warm — and have a great holiday.
Wow, that’s a cool effect! I still haven’t had a freeze at my house. I’m kinda wishing it’d stayed chilly for the holidays to indulge my Yankee roots. Then it can be 70 degrees all it wants!
