There isn’t much else to say about this Painted Bunting that visited our feeder tonight. It’s just stunning with all those beautiful colors.
He showed up last night, but when I got up to run get the camera, he flew off. Tonight I was able to sneak to the window because I’d left the camera sitting on the table just in case he came back.
What a lovely dinner guest we had!

Annie – you’re so right. I feel really lucky, since I’d never even seen one before yesterday’s sighting of this one. Ironically, my Mom and Dad had one at their house yesterday, too. They live about 10 minutes away. I wonder if something;s up – migratorily speaking!

I didn’t know there was such a lovely bird here, either. While I couldn’t read your blog, I certainly enjoyed the beautiful photography – especially the rice fields that look like art.
Beautiful! So glad you could get the shot. I saw a painted bunting while camping but didn’t have a chance to get the picture.
You were both lucky and smart, leaving the camera at the ready in case it came back. You’d think the painted bunting would have evolved into a less skittish bird by now, considering that everyone who sees one moves in with a camera for a photo op.
Vertie – so amazing looking, aren’t they? I was gonna post about it even when I didn’t have a photo, just because I was so flabbergasted at his beauty.
Pam – You would think they’d be used to us gawking at them by now! But he is SO skittish. I guess it’s like driving a red corvette in the world of Nature and predators!
I think you’re right about them being on the move in the area. Aren’t you lucky to be in their flyover zone! Maybe someday they’ll visit my corner of Katy.

OMG Diana, What a treasure you found at your feeders. I have only seen these birds a couple of times. The male is just too colorful for words. He looks so tropical, like something you would see on a tropical island.
