There isn’t much else to say about this Painted Bunting that visited our feeder tonight. It’s just stunning with all those beautiful colors.
He showed up last night, but when I got up to run get the camera, he flew off. Tonight I was able to sneak to the window because I’d left the camera sitting on the table just in case he came back.
Lucky girl! I’ve only seen one once, Diana- your beautiful painted bunting really slowed down and posed for you ;-]
Annie at the Transplantable Rose
Annie – you’re so right. I feel really lucky, since I’d never even seen one before yesterday’s sighting of this one. Ironically, my Mom and Dad had one at their house yesterday, too. They live about 10 minutes away. I wonder if something;s up – migratorily speaking!
Oh my gosh!! What an outstanding photo you got! When I saw one in my yard earlier this year, I couldn’t get a photo. Beautiful shot of a beautiful bird! 😉
Lee17 – well, I didn’t get the shot the day before – I just got lucky he likes our seeds and came back when I had the camera right there! Thanks.
I did not think that there was such a beautiful bird in U.S.A. It looks like the bird of the southern country. Please watch the Japanese bird.

I didn’t know there was such a lovely bird here, either. While I couldn’t read your blog, I certainly enjoyed the beautiful photography – especially the rice fields that look like art.
Beautiful! So glad you could get the shot. I saw a painted bunting while camping but didn’t have a chance to get the picture.
You were both lucky and smart, leaving the camera at the ready in case it came back. You’d think the painted bunting would have evolved into a less skittish bird by now, considering that everyone who sees one moves in with a camera for a photo op.
Vertie – so amazing looking, aren’t they? I was gonna post about it even when I didn’t have a photo, just because I was so flabbergasted at his beauty.
Pam – You would think they’d be used to us gawking at them by now! But he is SO skittish. I guess it’s like driving a red corvette in the world of Nature and predators!
I think you’re right about them being on the move in the area. Aren’t you lucky to be in their flyover zone! Maybe someday they’ll visit my corner of Katy.
Diana, who ever named this bird sure got it right. Looks like a child with bright crayons colored it. I have never seen one but am sooo happy that you did and got pictures to share with us. Thanks!
Cindy – I tell them that they should fly over your way! It’s my first sighting ever, too.
Beckie – your crayon analogy is perfect! That is exactly what it looks like.
Beautiful bird, wonderful pictures!
Christine – Thanks — so cool I could post them for everyone to see, too!
You Texans have all the good stuff (and some of the bad stuff, too). Wonderfully beautiful bird.
Gail
What a little treasure he is!
OMG Diana, What a treasure you found at your feeders. I have only seen these birds a couple of times. The male is just too colorful for words. He looks so tropical, like something you would see on a tropical island.
How cool
He’s a beauty! You’re lucky to have around!
Thanks, Sherry — it is so fun to have interesting animals around.
