In spite of the close to 100-degree heat in which I was hunched over to pick these little lovelies, I’m thrilled to have this beautiful bounty.
And, given the current tomato scare, I’m so pleased to have my own little orbs to eat! I think my dinner tonight will be a lovely spinach salad with tomatoes and cucumbers.
What’s ready to pick in your veggie garden today?
Nothing is ready for harvest! I’m so jealous of your cucumbers. Mine are not doing well at all. I may rip them out soon. And I’m really surprised that your spinach is doing well. Mine can’t take the heat. What are your secrets?
Vertie — My garden gets lots of sun, but the spinach is shaded by later afternoon, and I suspect that helps a great deal. I’m sure I am about to lose it so I am harvesting furiously. Just gave a big bag to my mom a few minutes ago. The cucumbers are next to the spinach – so same placement and they went in pretty early. Who knows, anyway? One year I can do something and the next I can’t do it at all. It’s pure luck as far as I can tell!
What a lovely still life photo, Diana! We have lots of herbs, but the only vegetables we’ve planted are tomatoes and peppers. We had a few peppers already and some smaller tomatoes – still hoping for a big slicer for a tomato sandwich.
Enjoy your harvest!

Diana this harvest looks like a picture for a seed catalog. All of those veggies are making me hungry. Yummmmm
Grrrrrr…my garden is going to hell in a harvest basket! Squash vine borers, wilting, not flowers setting- oh my! I may just give up and wait for the fall season. Yours looks great though- more power to ya’, sister!
Annie – I have one pepper – I planted three plants and one died and the other is fizzling. Weird how some things take and some don’t, isn’t it? Wishing you a big, fat tomato!
Lisa – Thanks! I can now report that the tomatoes and the cukes were yummy. I didn’t eat the spinach tonight. Might sautee it tomorrow with garlic and pine nuts and olive oil.
Bonnie – Well, it’s selective gardening. Having had my squash destroyed before, I just don’t plant it any more. Too much heartache. I feel for you. Your pictures are great tho – I think I skimmed by late last night but may not have left a comment cuz I was really trying to get to bed! I do think my tomatoes will be a very small crop because of this heat at night so early. I’m waiting for the fall, too.
Everything is looking wonderful, it would look better if it would wait a couple of days to rain this time so I could weed! Wow, is it wet here.
A wonderful bounty!
Shellmo – I know, and you can bet I am appreciating it. With 7 days over 100 already in June, in may be short-lived!
A glorious harvest…well done!
Lisa in CA – thanks! I love eating my own veggies and I love sharing them — with my mom and dad, as I did today, and with all my blogging friends.
Christine – you can come weed my garden! It needs it and it’s so hot I just don’t have the energy!
That is the prettiest table set with delicious looking bounty…delicious…I’m getting really hungry! It’s almost lunch time in Nashville!

Yum! Yum! I bet your salad was tasty! What beautiful veggies!
Iggee — it WAS tasty. I just love eating fresh, cool cucumber slices in the summer for a snack. They are so juicy and refreshing — and good for you. Go figure!
And I am jealous of your tomatos – what type were these out of curiosity? I had a disasterous tomato experience this year. Visit my blog if you want a good “tomato” giggle. I laugh at these plants everytime I walk past them, they are that sad.
Regards,
ESP.
East-side patach – I was afraid you’d ask that! I clearly didn’t tag them – I think these are from a Celebrity and a Big or Better boy. The second set I planted ARE tagged, but I have a week to go before I can eat any of those tomatoes. I’m going to your blog to get my “giggle!”
